Tounge-Tied!

Today, 3-18-09, Cami got her tongue tie, also known as ANKYLOGLOSSIA or SHORT LINGUAL FRAENUM, members.tripod.com/~Caroline_Bowen/tonguetie.html, fixed today! I have NOT been looking forward to this day and I am SO glad it’s over. I stayed in the car with Kaylin while David took her inside for the procedure. I am sure the ladies working at the birth center thought I was a bad mom, but I could NOT handle seeing her in pain. David was the brave daddy and took care of her! So he said it was pretty easy, they just held her little mouth open, that is the part she hated the most, then using special scissors they clipped the fraenum and it was all done! Luckily the Dr.’s caught this very early and we were able to correct it now. Dr. Clark, the girls’ awesome pediatrician, told us that after 4 months old the procedure becomes much for difficult and anesthesia is required. Yikes! So I am very happy it didn’t hurt too much and that it is over now! It’s been very cute; she has been sticking her tongue out all day now! She wasn’t able to do that before!

Luckily our girls are both awesome and they let us be “normal”, so after Cami’s procedure we went to Famous Dave’s for lunch, got the minivan washed, went shopping at Kohl’s and Babies R Us and then headed home. Cami and I got in some awesome cuddle time when we got home. I was still feeling guilty for her little tongue so we read a book on the recliner next to the front window with the breeze just blowing softly on us. It was heaven! It was also nice because Kaylin actually spent some time on her play mat, toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2737988&CAWELAID=107500531, all by herself! If you know Kaylin at all, you know this is a big step for her! She is very Mommy-fide!

Tonight we went to Chilies for dinner and then to Wal-Mart for a few necessities. We found the girls some VERY cute outfits and some Easter dresses! The thought of being able to buy an Easter dress for MY very OWN daughters brings tears to my eyes. There was a time that all I could do was dream about such an awesome thing like shopping for my kids! God is so good, we are SO blessed, and I am SO Thankful!!!

"Are they Twins?"--DUH!

Its been hard getting used to what people say to us and I've had a couple of you guys ask what we are hearing, here is a list:

"Are they Twins???"--this one isn't rude but its getting old, and it also makes David and I crack up. We really want to look at them and say DUH! David actually said to one lady, "NOPE, we just got pregnant again REALLY fast!"

the next thing out of their mouth when we say, "Yep! Twins!" is
"Are they girls?"--Nope...we just thought our sons looked really cute dressed all in pink with pink car seats! Seriously people, this happens to all my friends with babies and I just don't get it. I could understand if everything was green and yellow, but if its a blue car seat with a football hanging down and the kid is in blue its probably a boy.

How this is where a nice person would take that info--yes its twins, yes they are girls, and just say cool, or congrats (we actually did get a congrats once! I loved that lady! She made my day!) instead for the most part we hear...

"OH MY GOSH, thats crazy!" With a horrified look on their face.

"Double duty!" "Double trouble" or some other lame comment about being "double" again all with a look of disgust on their face.

This was was so lame I just acted like I didn't hear her..."Well you know they are going to like boys at the same time."

"We you expecting Twins?" I am not sure if she was asking if we did fertility treatments or if they run in our family or if this stupid lady actually thought I went in to have one baby and another just popped out. When we said, "yes" she said, "Oh WOW!!" ???

"You are going to go broke"

"Well its hard enought with ONE, I don't know how you could do it with TWO."--well we are, and its working out just fine!

We went out to lunch after the girls Dr.'s appointment and the girls slept in their car seats the whole time, not a peep! Perfect little babies. David was paying at the register and this guy comes up and says, "Oh wow, you are having a really busy day." David looked at him and said, "Nope." He got flustered and said, "Oh well I guess its normal for YOU."

And then there is the loud gasp, the obvious point and then the loud "whisper" saying, OH MY GOSH, TWINS! Then we walk by and they just stand their with their mouths open. Hahahah, seriously its like they have NEVER seen twins in their whole lives! Its pretty pathetic.

I guess the worst thing is the looks along with the comments. They are horrible! It makes me feel like a freak sometimes! I always reply that they are perfect babies and we are just doubly blessed. A lot of times that works and they feel stupid for being negative over a baby! Which they SHOULD! I just wish people would either mind their own business or say something nice with a NICE look on their face! So do me a favor, if you see someone with multiples just say, "What a blessing! Congratulations!" and keep waking! They are busy enough and don't need to hear all your gasps and answer all your questions.

2 week check-up

We had the girls 2 week check up on Thursday, March 5th with their AMAZING pediatrician, Dr. Clark. We met Dr. Clark when she was the on-call Dr. while we were in the hospital and we instantly feel in love with her! So much so that we switched to her even though we had already picked another pediatrician from another clinic. As of now I am BEYOND excited and happy with our choice. She has been amazing with the girls.

So the updates are:

Cambria weighed in at 6lbs .06oz, so VERY close to being back at her birth weight! Dr. C was VERY impressed with this! She looks great! Dr. C did notice a little bit of heart murmur, which she thinks is completely normal for her age and for her prematurity at birth, she things it will go away soon but is having us get a heart ultrasound just to make sure it isnt anything serious. None of us are worried because both girls had a TON of heart ultrasounds while I was pregnant since I was in the high risk clinic and they always passed with flying colors. She has also grown a LOT! She is 19 1/4inches now! Thats over an inch in growth since birth!

Kaylin weighed in at 5lbs 10.6oz, so she is OVER her birth weight by over 4 oz! She is catching up with her big sister! :-) She has also grown and is now 18 3/4 inches. so she has grown and inch and 3/4 since birth!

They are both great eaters, and have plenty of wet and dirty diapers, which is a good sign! They both do great at sleeping most of the time. They usually go 2-4 hours between feedings and sleep in between. They are now starting to get closer to 3-4 hours which is nice on Mom and Dad!

The Dr. was very pleased with their development and doesnt need to see them again until their 2 month appointment! That seems like forever away, but am glad to hear they are doing so well.

Welcome!

The girls are almost 3 weeks old today! Time is flying by! The girls are both complete angels...well most of the time ;-) I am loving this time David and I both have off and spending every minute together getting adjusted to our new family! We have all been doing great. We are actually VERY active and go out and do things almost every day. We went to Babies R Us, dinner at Outback Steak House and then to Walmart yesterday and the girls were so easy! We are still getting used to all the attention we attract with twins, people say some pretty rude things! But we don't care, we honestly and sincerely love being parents to these little miracles! Even without a ton of sleep, lots of laundry and a constantly cluttered house, I would not change a thing. I feel beyond privileged to be these little girls Mom. Yep, I am a Mom....ME! Its still the best thing ever to say that outload! I can't even come close to explaining the amazing feeling that washes over me when one of the girls is upset and the only thing to cure the blues is ME! All they need is their Mom and all their little woes seems to fade away. How lucky am I? I have an amazing husband who is beyond supportive and who is a complete natural at being an awesome Dad. I have the two most beautiful little girls ever! My world could not be more complete!

I will **TRY** to keep this site updated as much as possible, even if its just a quick post here and there and of course lots of pictures! I am going to be writing the girls an online journal and then puplishing it once and year and I may share some of those entries here as well.

Thanks for checking out our site! Enjoy!
